Germany launches tender for solar systems on federal buildings

The project covers the planning, construction and operation of the installations and is part of the institute’s climate programme.

BImA is the owner of all properties belonging to the Federal Republic of Germany. According to the institute, about 1,178 buildings have been identified as potentially suitable for the installation and operation of solar systems as of October 1, 2024.

As part of the project, the solar facilities should be installed and commissioned on suitable buildings by the end of 2030. The contractor should also evaluate the use of power storage systems on some buildings. If feasible, storage facilities should be later constructed.

Interested companies can submit bids until May 16, 2025. The awarding process will last until January 16, 2026, according to data from BImA.

The procedure, which began on November 6, 2024, includes a pre-qualification competition divided into seven regional lots -- Berlin and Brandenburg; North Rhine-Westphalia; Saxony and Thuringia; Baden-Wuerttemberg; Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and Hesse; Bremen, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt; Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The process was prepared by German consulting firms BBH-Gruppe and PD – Berater der oeffentlichen Hand GmbH.
